OPEN TO ALL GRADES: 

FIRST FREEDOM CENTER—First Freedom Student CompetitionPlease visit www.firstfreedom.org and go to the red First Freedom Student Competition button for essay topic and more information.  You have the chance to earn a $3,000, $1,500 or $750 award.  Online registration, is required on or before Monday November 23, 2009 and the postmark entry deadline for mailing the essay with its accompanying entry materials is Saturday, November 28, 2009. 

SENIORS: 

HOLIDAY BOWL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDThis award is presented annually to a high school senior (must be a senior in the school year of 2009-2010) from San Diego County who has excelled academically and within his/her community (school & outside).  Citizenship and leadership in extracurricular activities are particularly important criteria for this award.  The award is $10,000.  Applications are available in the Student Support Center.  Deadline is Friday, November 6, 2009.  

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION FOUNDATION 2010 Youth Activist Scholarship:  The ACLU will be selecting 15 high school seniors to receive $7,000 for showing a passion for civil liberties.  You must be a high school senior planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student; and have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of graduation.  Demonstrated financial need will also increase the student’s chances of qualifying for the scholarship.  Applications are available in the Student Support Center.  If you are interested you must contact our area Youth Scholarship Coordinator.  Information is available with Gracia in the SSC.  Deadline is Monday, November 30, 2009.  

 US BANK INTERNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM30 $1,000 scholarships awarded in a random drawing.  No essays and no minimum GPA required.  Program runs from October, 2009 to March 2010.  Apply online at www.usbank.com/studentloans .

STOKES EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM This scholarship is associated with the National Security Agency.  Looking for high school seniors who want to pursue degrees in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering.  In addition to exciting work and the satisfaction of serving your country you get:

  • Tuition and mandatory fees for the college of your choice
  • Reimbursement for textbooks
  • Housing and travel entitlements during the summer employment
  • Year-round salary while attending college
  • Continued employment with NSA after graduation.

You must be a U.S. Citizen; achieved a minimum SAT score of 1600 (1100 Critical Reading and Math, 500 in Writing) or ACT of 25; have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; demonstrate leadership abilities and must major in Computer Science or Computer or Electrical Engineering.  Apply online at www.NSA.gov/Careers click on any Apply online link and type in the keywords “Stokes Educational Scholarship Program.  Click “Search” and select Stokes Educational Scholarship and click on apply now then follow directions.  MUST BE POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 30, 2009. 

KYOTO SCHOLARSHIPThe purpose of the Kyoto Scholarships is to provide financial assistance to graduating seniors who will attend an accredited four-year university in the United States.  Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be actively involved in serving others as demonstrated by their participations in community, church, extra-curricular or work activities.  Applications can be printed at the Kyoto web site at www.kyotoprize.org .  Must be postmarked by Friday, January 8, 2010.

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPAXA is looking for seniors who share these qualities:ü      Ambition & driveü      Determination to set & reach goalsü      Respect or self, family & communityü      Ability to succeed in collegeApplication is online at www.axa-achievement.com  Deadline is December 15, 2009.

BURGER KING SCHOLARS $1,000 scholarships are available to all eligible high school seniors who maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher; work part-time an average of 15 hours a week or 40 weeks a year; actively involved in community service activities; demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited two/four-year college, university or vocational/technical school by Fall of 2009.  Application is available online at www.haveityourwayfoundation.org and are available September 14, 2009 – February 1, 2010.  Must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2010.  

HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUNDMust be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; apply for the federal financial aid using the FAFSA and have plans to be enrolled FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the Fall of 2010.  The following two scholarships are available:v     HSF Scholarship Program:  Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.  Apply online at www.HSF.net  Deadline is December 15, 2009.    

Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS):  Open to all students who will be enrolling for the first time at a college or university as a FULL-TIME degree-seeking freshman in the Fall of 2009; must have a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted); demonstrate leadership skills and financial need (Pell Grant eligible).  Apply online at www.GMSP.org .  Deadline is January 11, 2010.

ELKS TEENAGER OF THE MONTHEach month the Elks Lodge will select from the forms the seniors turn in—one male and one female teenager to be the “teenager of the Month”.  This is from the schools in the East County only.  Seniors will receive $350.  Applications are in the Student Support Center.  Ongoing application.  

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIPS 

Seattle University, Seattle, Washington Is looking for high school seniors who excel in leadership at school and in the community, commitment to justice and the good of others through service and a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the Sullivan Leadership Award.  Scholarships can range from $11,000 to $18,500 a year.  A completed admissions application along with the Sullivan Leadership application must be postmarked on or before November 15, 2008.  The application can also be found on the website at www.seattleu.edu/sullivan .    

UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING SCHOLARSHIPSRocky Mountain Scholars Award provides $3,000 to $5,000 of financial support annually for nonresident students based on their GPA.  Check out the opportunities at www.uwyo.edu/scholarships .
